The solar system consists of the Sun and the celestial objects bound to it by gravity. These objects include eight planets, their moons, dwarf planets, and countless small bodies like asteroids and comets. The Sun, a nearly perfect sphere of hot plasma, is the central star and the primary source of energy for the solar system.
